Newsletters

Botany

“Vitti”, the annual newsletter of the department of Botany, resonates with the journey of growth, unfoldings and empowerment in life. Vitti is a magnificent documentation of our plant kingdom as well as our department through the vision of our well-accomplished faculty members and our young botanists. For the last three years, Vitti has been a resplendent journey of exploration and admiration across the wonders of our plant kingdom. Additionally, our newsletter is a colorful assemblage of our annual events, progress and most importantly, our creative headstone. It aspires to not only celebrate the beauty and diversity of plants but also to cultivate a passion for conservation and sustainable practices among our readers. The foremost aim is to create a platform for students to showcase their talents and for readers to learn and imbibe the mysteries and depths of the plant kingdom. With every article, story, and journal, we seek to inspire, educate, and foster a community that champions the vitality of our ecosystem.

The newsletter is led by a team of young journalists from the department. The objective of the newsletter is to nurture creativity and inspire innovation. This newsletter has provided a platform for students to display their subject-specific expertise, creativity, and innovative ideas. Teachgenix covers varied topics of interest for everyone such as articles, quizzes, crosswords, information on the latest technology and trends, digital art and craft, competitions, events, internships, alumni, and placements.

English

Dialectic is the annual multidisciplinary e-newsletter of the English department. It began in 2016 and has had 8 issues so far. The call for papers is released in the month of January-February and the editorial board comprises faculty advisor along with student editors. With the objective of inculcating research aptitude in the students, the faculty members facilitate and guide interested students to write research papers. Students are also motivated and encouraged to unleash their creativity by writing fictional and non-fictional pieces. It is also worth mentioning that every year a theme is decided keeping in mind the collective interests of the students to ensure they benefit by contributing enthusiastically to the newsletter.

Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics, Maitreyi College, launched its first edition of the bilingual annual e-newsletter “Convergence” in May 2020. It is generally released in May-June and has had four issues so far. Announcements for the resource contribution for the new issue begins in January. It records the achievement of students of our department and captures their impulse to seize opportunities with an active will. It covers the events and activities conducted by the department throughout the year along with artistic sections and poetry. The students and faculty both contribute to the write-ups and framework of the newsletter. The newsletter represents the convergence of different ideas and shows the creative side of budding mathematicians. The objective is to sum up all the department activities and events happening throughout the year along with the achievements of students and faculty members.

Sociology

The stories of the margins have often gone unheard. We usually know of and believe in only one story, which is ours. Taking the lead from Chimamanda Ngozi Adchie’s ‘Dangers of a Single Story’, the Department of Sociology launched a biannual newsletter “SOCIOLOGUE: AAO BAAT KAREIN'' in 2015, which is an e-magazine from the year 2021. 5 Volumes of the newsletter had been released and after that, 3 issues of the magazine have been published to date also. The magazine provides a platform for writing content in multilingual. The editorial board contains both teachers and students. The attempt was to listen to some of these stories and to reach out to a wider audience from any field or discipline, start a dialogue on varied issues, particularly of those living on the margins of society, and encourage an attitude of questioning the given: issues of gender, sexuality, minorities, caste, food, and religion, to mention a few. The discipline of Sociology can be life-changing. It makes us aware of the need to question common sense and go beyond the apparent. It is not merely a discipline rather it is a way of life: a lens through which we can see the world around us and, in that process make sense of it. It is important to take sociology beyond the classrooms, create a platform for dialogue and critical thinking, and generate changes, however slight they may be.
