The stories of the margins have often gone unheard. We usually know of and believe in only one story, which is ours. Taking the lead from Chimamanda Ngozi Adchie’s ‘Dangers of a Single Story’, the Department of Sociology launched a biannual newsletter “SOCIOLOGUE: AAO BAAT KAREIN'' in 2015, which is an e-magazine from the year 2021. 5 Volumes of the newsletter had been released and after that, 3 issues of the magazine have been published to date also. The magazine provides a platform for writing content in multilingual. The editorial board contains both teachers and students. The attempt was to listen to some of these stories and to reach out to a wider audience from any field or discipline, start a dialogue on varied issues, particularly of those living on the margins of society, and encourage an attitude of questioning the given: issues of gender, sexuality, minorities, caste, food, and religion, to mention a few. The discipline of Sociology can be life-changing. It makes us aware of the need to question common sense and go beyond the apparent. It is not merely a discipline rather it is a way of life: a lens through which we can see the world around us and, in that process make sense of it. It is important to take sociology beyond the classrooms, create a platform for dialogue and critical thinking, and generate changes, however slight they may be.
“Iridescence” is the annual e-magazine of the Zoology Department, which showcases the myriad talents of students from Zoology & Life Sciences. The first issue of "Iridescence" came out during the academic session 2020-21, and there have been three issues since then. The editorial team comprises 6-10 students selected by a faculty advisory team of 3-4 members. The student editorial team is primarily responsible for the process of designing, conceptualizing, and the final form of the magazine to be released. A particular theme is chosen every year for the magazine and contributions from students are invited during the first few months of the session. The magazine is usually released during the annual day of the college. The magazine tries to portray the fascinating field of Life Sciences in general and Zoology in specific through a beautiful collection of different genres of writing (articles & poems, both bilingual, in English & Hindi), artwork, photographs and many other kinds of illustrative pieces of work. Although the majority of the articles and other pieces of work are contributed by students of Zoology & Life Sciences, articles are invited from faculty members as well.
