The vision of the department is to help students develop a ‘Sociological Imagination’; an ability to differentiate between commonsensical and sociological understanding of themselves and the world around them and unravel interconnections between different spheres of social life. The department strives to bring forth the importance of sociological imagination as a way of thinking and sociology as a way of life.
The mission of the department is to train students in rigours of scholarship through intensive, critical and reflexive thinking so that they can engage with social realities both at macro as well as micro levels.
