About the Department

The Department of Political Science offers an undergraduate three years Honours course and Generic Electives to other Honours courses as well as courses at the integrated B.A. Programme level. The department has a diverse faculty whose specialization spreads across various fields of Political Science and caters to the largest number of students across disciplines. The core emphasis of the department is on familiarising students with the conceptual and applied essence of the discipline. The department has established several collaborations with both national and international organizations in order to provide hands-on experience to students. The department prepares students for a wide range of careers, who join government, non-government organizations and private sectors. A large number of students opt for higher studies in prestigious institutions in India and abroad.

The Department of Political Science has organized several events and activities during the academic year 2022-23. The first major offline event was organized on 29th-30th September 2022. It was an International Conference on the theme “Indian Perspectives on Global Politics: Analyzing the First Two Decades of the 21st Century” with around 200 attendees from around the country. The Chief Guest for the inaugural session included Ambassador Manjeev Puri (Former Ambassador of India to the EU), the Chair was Prof. Sangit Ragi (Head of Department, the Department of Political Science), Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit (Honourable Vice Chancellor, JNU), Prof. Sheetal Sharma (Centre for European Studies, School of International Studies, JNU) were the keynote speakers. “A Webinar on Career in Social Sector” for encouraging students to make career in social sector was delivered by Deepti Dwibedi, in online mode on12th November 2022. Res Publica, the department association, organized a Talk on “Contextualizing Agrarian Change in India: Some Sociological Reflexions” by Mr. Pawan Harsana on 15th October 2022 for the academic year 2022 in offline. The Department celebrated “National Constitution Day” on 26th November 2022 in the presence of faculty members and students. Later in the year an interactive session was organized about “Higher Education Opportunities At Columbia” by Yin Xu, and Alex Barroca from Columbia University on 30th November 2022. It was widely welcomed by the students from all the departments.
