Maitreyi College emerged victorious at the Weightlifting Inter College Tournament, organized by the Department of Physical Education at Ramanujan College on behalf of the Delhi University Sports Council and the University of Delhi. Our college took home the overall championship title, boasting an impressive haul of:

The District Interact Leadership Assembly
On November 5th, 2024, Maitreyi College hosted World Interact Day on its sports ground, in collaboration with the Sports Department, Rotary Club, and National Service Scheme (NSS) of Maitreyi College, DU. The event saw the presence of distinguished guests, including:

The District Interact Leadership Assembly, organized by Rotary International, aimed to develop leadership skills, enhance understanding of Rotary and Interact goals, foster networking, plan community service projects, and elect district leaders. The assembly was a resounding success, with students from various schools showcasing their innovative art and cultural events. Approximately 20 stalls were set up, providing a platform for people to interact with each other and learn from one another. The event was a testament to the power of collaboration and the enthusiasm of young leaders. It was a momentous occasion, filled with learning, growth, and connection."
National Sports Day 2024
The Maitreyi College Sports Department celebrated National Sports Day 2024 on August 29th, 2024, in the college amphitheater, promoting teamwork, strength, and unity among students. The event, supervised by Dr. Neha Baghel, took place from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and saw enthusiastic participation from 80 students across various departments. The event fostered inter-departmental bonding and the joy of sports, featuring several rounds of Tug of War and culminating in an exciting open challenge of the Longest Plank Hold. Students in the audience eagerly volunteered to join the competition, showcasing their determination and enthusiasm. This celebration not only honored the spirit of National Sports Day but also encouraged students to embrace the value of sports in their lives. The success of this event will surely pave the way for more such initiatives, promoting a culture of sportsmanship and unity in the college.
International Yoga Day 2024
"On June 21st, 2024, the Maitreyi College Sports Department organized an International Yoga Day event in the college seminar hall, in collaboration with the Students' Union, National Service Scheme, and Medical Health and Hygiene Committee. The event took place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and was attended by college staff and students. Principal Prof. Haritma Chopra and guests presented tokens of appreciation to the yoga experts and delivered a speech highlighting the importance of yoga. Ms. Geeta Redhu, a national yoga player, teacher, and practitioner, led the event as the instructor. The yoga experts taught various styles of yoga, including Suryanamaskar, yoga asanas, and Pranayam, following the protocol of International Yoga Day celebrations. All participants thoroughly enjoyed the yoga session, and the event concluded with refreshments for all. This event promoted the significance of yoga and its benefits for overall well-being, and we look forward to more such initiatives in the future."
“AGAAZ” Annual Sports Fest 2022-23:
Agaaz: The Annual Sports Festival of Maitreyi College. 2023 saw an overwhelming response from colleges all over Delhi-NCR. The fest boasted 6 different sports and all the events had a brilliant response and were hosted with utmost zeal. The 7v7 futsal tournament included 30+ teams and the basketball tournament was also appreciated amongst everyone. Sports allow students to develop psychomotor skills and fine-tune motor skills with coordination, movement, strength, dexterity, grace, and speed, and also find healthy outlets for energy. Agaaz sports fest gave an equal opportunity to all to participate and showcase their talents. Exciting awards and cash prizes were also given to all the winners. Stalls were put up and the college was beautifully decorated for the 3 day extravaganza. It is truly a sporting event one cannot miss.
INDO-FRANCE FOOTBALL WEEK:
An Indo French Football Program was hosted in collaboration with Maitreyi College, University of Delhi. It was hosted to improve relations and also spread awareness about the various football techniques used globally. We were graced with the presence of one of the head coaches from France i:e Mr. Maxime Dominique Delahaye. The collaboration was hosted by Maitreyi College between 14th March and 16th March 2023. It was mainly held to discuss and form an Indo French partnership and to have a football program and interaction with the players. This gave a platform to all the budding football players to up skill and display their talents and learn from a coach with global experience and exposure.
INDO-COLOMBIAN FOOTBALL COLLABORATION
Maitreyi College also hosted an Indo-Colombian football collaboration to promote women’s football and strengthen ties between the two nations. It was held on 25th May, 2023. There was enthusiastic participation from young girls as well as the football team of Maitreyi College. We were graced with the presence of the Chargee d'Affaires of the Embassy of Colombia and the Second Secretary to the Embassy of Colombia. Maitreyi College truly believes in the equality of women in sports and providing an equal platform to all.
Maitreyi College, Delhi University, proudly hosted the prestigious Delhi University Basketball Intercollege (W) Tournament from February 17 to February 21, 2025. The tournament witnessed an exhilarating display of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship, with 20 teams and a total of 266 players vying for the coveted championship title.
Each team, consisting of 12 players, one coach, and one manager, brought their A-game to the court, making for a series of electrifying matches. Team Maitreyi showcased commendable performances, securing victories against Dyal Singh College and Sri Venkateswara College before facing a tough challenge against Hansraj College in their third match.
The semi-finals set the stage for an intense showdown, featuring gripping encounters between Hindu College and Lady Shri Ram College, as well as Ramjas College and Miranda House. The grand finale kept spectators on the edge of their seats, culminating in a spectacular victory for Miranda House, who emerged as the champions. Hindu College and Ramjas College secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively, after showcasing remarkable skill and determination.
Organized under the exceptional leadership of Ms. Shipra Verma, the tournament was a resounding success, providing a platform for young athletes to hone their skills, embrace healthy competition, and exhibit true sportsmanship. The event not only celebrated basketball excellence but also strengthened the bonds of camaraderie among participating colleges, making it a memorable experience for all.
Delhi University Netball Intercollege (W) Tournament 2025
Maitreyi College, Delhi University, proudly hosted the thrilling Delhi University Netball Intercollege (W) Tournament from February 27 to March 5, 2025. The tournament brought together nine top-tier colleges, each fielding a 12-player squad, along with their dedicated coaches and managers.
The competition was a spectacle of skill, strategy, and sheer determination, with teams battling fiercely for the coveted title. Enthusiastic crowds witnessed high-energy matches showcasing exceptional teamwork and athleticism. After a series of nail-biting encounters, Miranda House emerged as the undisputed champions, while Maitreyi College put up a commendable fight to claim the runners-up position.
Guided by the meticulous planning and leadership of Ms. Shipra Verma, the tournament was executed seamlessly, ensuring a fair and electrifying competition. The event not only celebrated sporting excellence but also fostered camaraderie, resilience, and a true spirit of sportsmanship.
Agaaz’25: Maitreyi College Hosts the 6th Annual Sports Festival
Maitreyi College, Delhi University, successfully hosted the 6th Annual Sports Festival, Agaaz’25 from March 27 to March 29, 2025. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 1,000 students across Delhi University and the NCR region. Launched in 2019, Agaaz has grown into a prestigious inter-college tournament, offering a platform for athletes to compete in disciplines such as athletics, deadlifting, tug-of-war, kho-kho, basketball, and football.
The tournament, open to students, teachers, and non-teaching staff, showcased a high level of sportsmanship and competition. The inaugural ceremony on March 27 saw the Maitreyi College sports ground bustling with energy as players geared up for three days of intense matches.
The festival concluded with the award ceremony on March 29, graced by esteemed chief guests. Winners were recognized and applauded for their outstanding performances, marking the end of a thrilling tournament.
The event was meticulously organized by the Physical Education Department of Maitreyi College, under the supervision of Ms. Shipra Verma (Asst. Prof., Physical Education), Dr. Neha Baghel (Asst. Prof., Physical Education), and the student sports committee. Their dedication ensured the grand success of Agaaz’25.
