The mission of Istoria, the Department of History at Maitreyi College, is to foster academic excellence, encourage critical thinking, and promote a holistic understanding of history while engaging students in research, community events, and skills development for their academic and professional growth.

Society Activities

Istoria, the Department of History at Maitreyi College, offers a dynamic range of activities designed to engage and inspire students. Key initiatives include:

1. Guest Lectures: Esteemed historians and scholars present on various historical themes, enriching students' perspectives.

2. Workshops: Interactive sessions on research methodologies, archival studies, and critical analysis help develop essential academic skills.

3. Debates and Discussions: Engaging debates on historical interpretations and contemporary issues promote critical thinking and articulate expression.

4. Field Trips: Visits to museums, historical sites, and archives provide practical learning experiences and deepen understanding of historical contexts.

5. Movie Screenings: Regular screenings of historically significant films, followed by discussions, allow students to explore history through cinema, analyzing its representation and impact.

6. Annual Academic Fest: This flagship event showcases student research through presentations, exhibitions, and competitions. It often includes panel discussions and cultural performances, celebrating history in an interactive environment. The fest is also very significant in accordance with the release of our annual magazine titled "Kathavarnan".

Through these activities, Istoria fosters a vibrant community of history enthusiasts, promoting academic growth, critical inquiry, and camaraderie among students.
