The Department of English at Maitreyi College is one of the key departments in the college. The department fosters critical thinking and socially conscious approach through requisite courses and activities. Research is an integral part of the department pedagogy. Students and the faculty engage in exploring perspectives and attitudes that shine a light on issues of social and academic relevance.
Diverse thought-domains infrom the teaching-learning and co-curricular initiatives of the department. These domains range across Translation Studies, Gender and Sexuality, Postcolonial Thought, South Asian Literatures, Flim Studies, among others.
The department has a Student Council that organizes various departmental activities and work towards collaborations. All these initiatives are executed under the umbrella of Dhiti, the Literary Association of the department. Ekphrasis, is the Annual Fest of the department that witnesses various competitions and talks by invited experts of repute. Dialectic, the Annual Newsletter of the department is another platform for students where they present their creative work and gain editorial expereince.
The department strives to encourage interdisciplinarity and inclusivity, while honing students' literary merit.
