Vision

The Department of Botany at Maitreyi College is unique in terms of its equal and prime profession of teaching as well as fundamental research. Our mission as the department of Botany is to foster an environment of excellence by sustaining outstanding students, teaching as well as non-teaching staff. The key focus lies majorly on the patterns and processes that enable predictive comprehension of plants and related studies at local, national and international scale. As an undergraduate college, the primary goal of Botany is to imbibe, educate and inspire young minds with basics as well as advances of plant sciences and relevant pathlines pertaining to it. The department aims to develop human resources with competence in frontiers of plant sciences. Our mission is to employ conventional as well as non-conventional tools to understand the importance and scope of Botany as a mainstream field of research elemental for science. Additionally, we aim to furnish a scientific attitude amongst the students, encouraging open-mindedness and curiosity in young minds. The department aims to thrive as a unit that enables the application of acquired knowledge in fields of life to make the department a more self-reliant and self-sufficient society and country.

Mission

The Department of Botany has envisioned a framework best suited for enhancing the fundamentals of plant sciences and its application through diverse pedagogical tools, innovative research techniques, field visits, trips, sample collection and in-house activities. To achieve our mission, the department pursues a multipronged strategy involving students, staff, and faculty. They are continuously engaged in consolidating the skills and knowledge base of their students and training of the technical staff. The faculty continuously thrives to improvise their professional and pedagogical skills by attending the Faculty Development Programs, conducting research, internships, and publishing manuscripts in addition to the rigorous activities of teaching and learning. Through these countless endeavors, the department of Botany wishes to contribute to a better society.
